Francis Alÿs is a Belgian artist who has worked out of Mexico City since the late 1980s. This is his first comprehensive monograph, published by Phaidon in 2007 in the Contemporary Artists Series, 160 pages. It gathers the work that helped shape his reputation – from pushing a block of ice through the streets until it melts to nothing to moving a sand dune outside Lima with five hundred volunteers in When Faith Moves Mountains. The book carries an interview by Cuauhtémoc Medina, a survey by Russell Ferguson, and a focus by Jean Fisher.
