Dune Magazine April 2000

Hanover Dune Magazine April 2000 Blog Post

DUNE was a Japanese magazine about American culture founded by Fumihiro Hayashi in the late eighties. It ran through the nineties and into the early 2000s, covering skate, film, and art.

The Spring 2000 issue has Sofia Coppola on the cover, shot by Matt Jones. Virgin Suicides had just come out. Spike Jonze had just done Being John Malkovich. Harmony Korine and Chloë Sevigny are in here together. Mark Gonzales, photographed by Shigekazu Onuma. Ed Templeton's Teenage Smokers artwork.

Sofia also shot for DUNE earlier in her career. Hayashi hired her while she was at CalArts, before she had a film to her name. By the time she's on the cover, she had already been working with the magazine for years.
